Day 9 (Tuesday, June 20)
Today was kinda cool. I was told by my editor that I wasn't
going to be going on assignment and that I could take the train
into work.
That was a total different world for me. I have never lived
in a city with mass transportation. Here, they have all kinds
of busses and all kinds of trains leading into downtown.
I woke up earlier than expected and got ready for my train
experience. I walked about a half mile from the house to the
train station. That's where I caught the Orange Line train that
leads into The Loop in downtown. It felt cool. I imagined this
is how it would have been had my parents never migrated to the
United States. I'd be taking the subway in Mexico City to some
sort of job.
The train ride proved to be a good idea. I was in downtown
in 15 minutes, as opposed to yesterday when it took me 45 minutes
to drive there, park and get to the office. Plus, it only took
$2, instead of the $13 I paid for parking yesterday.
The workday was cool. I was able to see how The Associated
Press works whenever there's something big going on. A plane
at O'Hare airport had trouble landing and it made quite the
crash landing. No injuries were reported, but the story was
still important.
I saw how the editor did the job and what it needs to be done
in order to be able to have the photo of the story.
After work I took the train home. I got home in a blink of
an eye. Wow! I love this! I really do.

I took a slight detour during my train trip. I went north for
a little while on the Purple Line just to see what I could encounter.
I got off on Chicago Avenue because I thought it would make
a nice image. Now you know where I am. Chicago, the place of
trains.

Of course I had to get a self-portrait to show the grandkids
someday. Yeah, grandpa was a Pachuco!

This reminded me a lot of my trip to New York in 2004. It was
so much fun.

The train ride allowed me to see some cool things. All for
the low cost of $2. Wow!

I got home and I watched the Miami/Dallas basketball game.
Pretty cool game. But if you ask me, I rather watch college
ball. That's where real basketball is played.
