Day 10 (Wednesday, June 21)

I am getting comfortable with things. Especially riding the
Orange Line to work. Today I woke up early again and walked
over to the station where I caught the train to work again.
I felt good not worrying about traffic and parking. Of course,
soon that will change once I start taking assignments and I
will be needing my car. But for the meantime it feels good to
know that I can get around in the train.
The work schedule was pretty cool. I went in early and left
late. My shift was over, but I hung out with staff photographer
Charles Rex Arbogast, who was working on a photo shoot in one
of the residential buildings in downtown. He has been working
on a story on skyscrapers and today's photo shoot would finish
out the project.
He shot photos and I assisted. It was really cool seeing him
work. I got to learn a few things about how AP staffers work.
He shot a few photos and I moved behind him to see what he was
looking. That's when I decided to take his photo a step further.
The above photo is of the resident in one of the high-rise buildings.
The left side is a reflection coming off the mirror of the man's
bedroom. Initially, Charlie's photo was only of the man and
the nice view of downtown. My addition of the reflection made
the photo look a little cooler.
I shouldn't have shot the photo because I was stepping on his
heels as he worked (not literally). However, I saw a cool angle
and I just went with it. The good thing is that he was very
cool about me shooting the photo.
Charlie reminds me of Arthur Spragg in San Angelo. The two
men are tall and they've been doing their work for a long time.
Arthur is a good friend of mine now. Someday I will look back
to this internship and remember how good of a friend I made
with Charlie.
Today I also got to meet another of my editors, Skip Stewart.
He seems very cool and he helped me a lot in getting a little
more acquainted with the system. He even threw me into some
situations where I wrote captions for a few photos. Yeah, it's
a little slow right now. But I can't start w/o learning the
system.
It's mid week and it feels like the week just got started.
Time is already flying. I can't believe that it's already the
21st of June, the first day of summer. Hard to believe it was
three weeks ago today when I graduated.
I wish I could say I miss home. But I must say that I don't.
There's too much to do here. I like the big city environment.
And after all, who can feel lonely when you live in a place
like this:

Yup. That's my apartment...
Yeah right!!! That's the home of the person we went to shoot
this afternoon.
Hahahahaha!
