Day 11 (Thursday, June 22)

Before I write about today, I want to write something that
I forgot to write about yesterday...
Every state has its own customs and its own style. I remember
people hyping up Whataburger when I got to Texas two years ago.
Around here, a lot of people hype up White Castle. I must say
that I had not paid too much attention to the hype. I guess
the hype around here is more about the hot dogs and the deep-dish
pizza. White Castle, nonetheless. is a favorite among the locals.
Yesterday I had some and I must say that the hype fits. These
burgers are good. They are small, but they are good. It's good
to go to places and have the food that makes these places so
unique. There's Whataburger in Texas, Nathan's hot dogs in New
York and In-N-Out in California.
Moving on to today's story. Well, there is not much of a story.
Today was one of those days that will be a blur. I spent the
whole day in the office working on the computer system. I got
the hang of it and I am learning some of the few little things
that make The Associated Press different than any other news
organization.
Although the computer programs and workflow is different than
other news organizations, one thing that this bureau has in
common with other newspapers is the work environment. One of
the cool things that I liked about my internships in Texas and
Florida is that it's a family environment. Here, it's no different.
Tonight, most everyone from the office got together to bid farewell
to a coworker who is moving to another bureau in another continent.
By seeing everyone together away from the office environment
I was able to see that this is a good environment. Everyone
seems to get along with each other. That's very important to
me because being so far from my friends and family I get pretty
lonely. But w/ the family environment at the office, the homesickness
is not that much.
