Day 12 (Friday, June 23)

© The Associated Press
Yesterday I was given a training plan, which I must follow
in order to have a successful internship. In it, it talks about
all that I will be doing week by week. The first week is dedicated
to office stuff, like the stuff I have been writing about these
past couple of days It will be a while, according to the plan,
before I start shooting assignments on my own.
Well, that went out the door today. Last night a group of men
was arrested in Miami and charged with alleged terrorist ties.
Some of the charges include the belief that they were going
to do something at the Sears Tower here in Chicago.
Wow! That's pretty scary considering that the Sears Tower is
less than a quarter mile away from The Associated Press office.
Wow!
The AP office was pretty busy with that story this morning.
And when there was an announcement that the local authorities
will be having a press conference and there were no staff photographers
available I was sent out to "get your feet wet" as
my editor said.
I hopped on a cab and headed out to the assignment. The press
conference was just so that authorities could make sure that
the locals knew that this threat was nothing to worry about
and that there was never any danger.
I was pretty happy for going on my first assignment. Learning
the system and the workflow with the AP is cool, but I have
been real anxious to go out and shoot. Today I got that chance
and I was able to put my photos on the network. These photos
were sent out worldwide. I guess this makes me official. I have
a photo that is available to all AP subscribers in the 121 countries
it serves.
