Day 15 (Monday, June 26)

© The Associated Press
After getting the much-needed rest this weekend I was ready
to go this morning. I had extra energy and I was ready to go
to work once I woke up.
I headed to the office and worked on my Gay and Lesbian Pride
Parade photos. I was pretty happy w/ the results. Pretty much
I was just happy that I didn't stay idle during the weekend.
Not long after arriving in the office I got an assignment.
I was to go out to a health literacy meeting and get some interesting
photos. I had a choice of taking a long train ride to the assignment
or take my truck. I had not been paying much attention to my
truck lately since I discovered the train system. I jumped on
my truck and headed out.
Once at the assignment I realized how much I learned during
previous internships, particularly the one-week projects with
SPJ and NAHJ. The meeting I was shooting was the same style
as the convention coverage I did during the journalism conferences.
I didn't freak out once I got there. I just got into "conference
mode" and went to work.
The above photo is perhaps the one that I liked the most. The
woman, Toni Cordell, had literacy deficiency issues throughout
her life. She's a literacy advocate these days. So, the fact
that the reflection of a projection screen on her glasses kind
of tells you that she's not illiterate anymore. I kind of threw
a little symbolism into it.
The rest of the day was pretty much devoted to editing. I worked
on a few more things, but that was pretty much it.
I went home and went out for a jog. It feels good to finish
a day of work with a nice jog. I am only up to three miles for
the time being, but I feel real good.
