Day 18 (Thursday, June 29)

One of the reasons why I fell in love with journalism at the
young age of 12 years old was the sports-coverage factor. As
a little kid I used to dream of playing in the major leagues.
Of course, that dream kind of fell through when my baseball
talents ended at the high school level and was never offered
a scholarship to University of Texas, the way I dreamed a lot
about during my high school baseball days.
I am a pretty stubborn person. So, once I knew I wasn't going
to be a pro athlete I had to figure out a way to get onto the
pro baseball fields.
Assignments like the one that I had today at the home of the
Chicago White Sox, U.S. Cellular Park, makes it all worth it.
Journalism is putting me right on the field.

Along with putting me on the field, it's bringing me around
some pretty important people. Today's assignment was to go to
the stadium to the news conference by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
I had a chance to see this important person right up front and
the photo above looks pretty cool.

Being in the stadium was cool and I got to see some of the
behind the scenes. One of the offices at the stadium has this
really cool lawn chair. It's composed of baseballs, bats and
bases. How cool is that!

I also got a chance to be right up close to the World Series
trophy the White Sox won last year.

I also got the chance to see the World Series ring right up
close. Oh, that reminds me. I have to put in my order for my
graduation ring. Woohooo. I get to sport some bling bling. This
week I got a letter in the mail from CSUN telling me I am on
the Dean's List. What????!!!??? Me on the Dean's List???
Believe it or not. I racked up 3.8 GPA and got me on the Dean's
List. Not bad considering I took seven courses altogether.
My dream of being on the baseball fields is coming true. And
I guess it's school and journalism that has got me there. I
must say I am a lucky person for being able to live my dreams.
