Day 24 (Wednesday, July 5)

Going back to work after a holiday has its ups and downs. The good thing is that since the holiday gives one an extra day off, one comes back a little more rested. Another good thing, especially this year since it fell on a Tuesday, is that when you go back to work, you have a shorter work week. Not that I am not excited to go to work. But that means the weekend is closer and one can have fun sooner. The bad thing is that it could be a little slow.

I didn't have an assignment today so I worked on minor things at the office. There were no highlights during the work day.

On my way home, however, I reached a milestone. "La Huera" reached the 99,999-mile mark. It happened as I made my way home. When I got home, the odometer read all 9's and that was pretty exciting. I can't believe that truck has taken me so far. Just in the last 25 months, I've driven it 75,000 miles with trips to Vegas, Death Valley, Florida Keys, Texas (three times) and, of course, Chicago. I've seen 19 U.S. states while driving my truck. It's been good to me.

The above photo shows the odometer reading 99,999 as I drove home. I had to make some images of it and myself, of course.

I could have driven around the block a few times just to tip the miles over. But I didn't want to do that because no mileage on that truck has ever been done foolishly. There is a reason why each mile has been added on there. Work, pleasure and life. That's what those miles mean to me.
