Day 83 (Saturday, September 2)

I can't believe I had been in Chicago this whole time and I
finally got the chance to go work a Cubs baseball game. It's
all good. I knew covering a game was going to be part of the
internship experience and I wasn't in such a hurry to do so.
But today I did.

I tagged along w/ staffer Nam Y. Huh, who almost got taken
down by Giants first baseman, on a foul ball in the above photo.

The Cubs, as you can see, played the S.F. Giants. Booooooo!
Oh wait, I am not supposed to show favorites here. Woops. OK!
OK! So the Cubs played the Giants. Personally, I dislike the
Giants because of my Dodger roots. But when it comes down to
covering the Giants in an assignment, I forget about the fact
that I am a Dodger. As a matter of fact, I left my LA hat in
the truck today when I parked my car on the Purple Lot just
west of the stadium.

Above is the photo of when Bonds hit a home run. At that point
he was 28 home runs away from breaking the home run record.
There's that controversy of how real his home run record is.
Just because he did all those enhancing drugs. Again, I cannot
show a bias. I shot the photos of Bonds because he created the
story. I couldn't let my feelings of his so-called home run
record chase get in the way.

Bonds rounded third base during the home run and I was able
to get some perspective of the Cubs pitcher and Bonds.

Being on the sidelines at a baseball game can be dangerous.
That's because the photographers' pit is so close to the stadium.
Wriggley field has its photographers' pit right up close to
the foul ball line. You're bound to get scared a few times.
Just like the photo above where Feliz swung a foul ball. The
ball is seen on the top left corner as it headed toward me.
I ducked and was able to be saved by the small fence in front
of the photo pit. Whew! That was close.

The seventh inning stretch was given by Rod Beck, long time
Cubs reliever. Beck graduated from Grant High School in Van
Nuys, Calif. That's the same high school I graduated from. During
my high school baseball days we often talked about Rod Beck,
the only person to give the Lancers a City Section title.

Bonds struck out on the above photo. He makes news every time
he goes up to bat, home run or not.
