Day 23 (Fri., Sept. 23)

Oh yeah! Football time. Those Friday Night Lights gave way
for my evening. Yesterday I felt really good for going to a
football practice. Today I headed out to a real game. Nice!
I felt good. I had a deadline and I met it w/ some time to kill.
So, at least today I didn't drive my editors crazy by wondering
if I was going to file my photo in time. Football was a very
cool way to end the day and the work week.
The thing that was on my mind all day was that hurricane Rita
that's headed toward the Texas coast. As a matter of fact, as
I sit here on the side of my bed writing this, it's just past
midnight and the hurricane is fixing to reach land. Tomorrow
morning we'll know what happen. But it's scary for now.
I kept on thinking about Galveston all day. All the good times
I spent there this summer. One thing that I kept on thinking
about was about those cool photos I took there. One photo in
particular puts it all into perspective. Here you go (I hope
not to offend anyone):

That photo was taken in July when I drove my 4X4 on the beach
in Galveston's west end near Jamaica Beach. It's not the first
and/or last time I will take a photo where I am showing a little
too much by mooning the camera. I usually just do stuff like
that to amuse myself. That's the one thing that I learned from
watching my favorite movie Grease. I just shoot these
photos and put them away. But I guess this photo can finally
see the light of day. Is this photo rude? Sure! But I am sure
a lot of Galvestonians agree w/ me on this one. There's a big
motto which Texas live by:
"Don't Mess W/ Texas!"
So far, everyone's prayers have been heard. Last night I wrote
about how cool it was that the hurricane strength was coming
down and that it went from a category five to a four. Well,
today it went down to a three w/ speeds of 120 miles per hour.
Very cool considering that it reached 175 mph less than 36 hours
ago. It's still a pretty strong storm, but at least it's not
a five...
It's 2:02 a.m. and the newsman just said the eye wall just
hit land on the border of Texas and Louisiana. So it is now
over land. It's time to see how Mother Nature will treat us.
It hurts to hear things the newsperson is saying. "Some
historic buildings in Galveston are engulfed in flames,"
the newscaster said. I fear for the Bishop's Palace and Sacred
Heart Cathedral. I hope those places are doing fine right now.
It's painful to hear it because there's nothing anyone can do
to stop it. Mother Nature is having her way right now. Perhaps
she's getting revenge for all those who litter and drive their
smoggy cars.
And people say/believe that there is no such thing as global
warming... Sure, keep on riding your SUVs and drinking out of
styrofoam cups.
It's time to sit and watch what happens. It's time to reflect.
We're going to get through it! Can we learn from it? We'll see.
