El Sentinel/Sun-Sentinel Internship

Day 42 (Weds., Oct. 12)

One of the coolest things about being part of a big-time newspaper like the Sun-Sentinel is the access to the equipment. If I get sent out to an assignment, all I gotta do is sign the correct paperwork and then take it out and play w/ it.

It was the same way last year w/ Al Dia. One of the things I just can't wait to have reasons to check out is the Canon 400mm IS lens. Ohhh Myyyy Goddddd!! That's a big boy lens. It weighs so much and it's bigger than me. Sometimes at assignments people ask me if I can see stars with it. Well, not quite.

Since this is such a prestigious lens, I always day dream about all the things that I could do w/ it. So, pretty much when I get my hands on this lens, I try to make the most of the opportunity. And that's exactly what happened today.

I have never shot high school swimming before. I have done a few water polo games, but never swimming. So today was a learning experience. And since I said that whenever I get that cool lens, I try to make the most out of it, I came back to the office w/ the above photos. A co-worker, who has been working in newspapers for ever, said that the images look like I have been shooting swimming for a long time. That's quite the compliment. I do love the first photo because of the expression on the kid's face. It makes this a cool photo to look at.

One of the things that I keep reminding myself is that I have to take full advantage of every single opportunity. So, today I think I accomplished that.

So, as you know I have been running every day this month. Up until today, I have ran 41 miles in the 12 days of this month. I am intending to run every day this month and I am almost at the halfway point, so that's good news.

I am getting back into my rhythm. Which is perfect timing because tomorrow I am doing one of the coolest things ever. Or perhaps one of the craziest things ever. Maybe even the dumbest things ever. Come back and see what I am talking about.

In the meantime I will end this and pack my bags so I can be ready for tomorrow's activities. I know I will be enjoying them. Will it be pleasant for you to read? I hope so.
