Day 45 (Weds., Oct. 26)

Hurricane Wilma day 2! Man, I was all ready to get my truck back this morning but the airport was close. I was ready to go to work and the office was close. Well, at least that's what I thought. Turns out the Sun-Sentinel's Deerfield Beach office was open all this time and I didn't find out until late in the evening today, so I missed out on work. Dang! If only I knew where we were working out of. But the security guard didn't tell me and I still didn't have cell phone communication.

The lines at the gas stations were long. I saw one that ran 2.4 miles long. I wondered how long it would take the person at the end of the line before they got gas. It would surely be a five-hour-plus wait. Man! But people were eager to get gas. But I am not sure for what. Everything in town was closed. For most people, there's nowhere to go, so what's the point of waiting in long lines for gas. I think not having gas is a sign of weakness. Hmm, that explains the reason for wars.

Luckily, I had enough gas to last me for a few days. Since I thought we weren't going to work, I didn't have to go nowhere, so I spent most of the day within the confines of my community. I didn't go far and saved the half tank that I still had in the Focus.

On my drive to the airport I did get a chance to see some crazy people waiting in line. I also saw some destruction.

I am still trying to figure out how the steel beams from this sign were bent but the palm tree in the background was perfectly fine. Wow!

I am lucky to say that we have power at home. Of the three million people who lost it, we are among the few hundred thousand that are now back to normal. It must be hard.

Since I had power, 1/2 of tank in gas in the car and nowhere to go, I decided to watch a movie. I (heart) Huck-A-Bees was good. I have been meaning to watch it since I got here. Today was the perfect day for that. Since I know where we are working out of now, I will be going down there tomorrow and finally do my part in hurricane coverage. It's been almost two weeks since I've worked in Florida, I am getting rusty.
