Day 55 (Sat., Nov. 5)

Ok, how do you make a photo of something that has not happened?
Better yet, how do you make a bland assignment appealing?
I kept on asking myself those questions as I drove 45 minutes
north to West Palm Beach. I was headed to meet the Montana-Perico
family. We are working on a story about how Latinos celebrate
Thanksgiving. I think it's a great idea, but I wasn't sure how
to make a photo of this family more visually appealing. Not
that they are boring. The family was actually very kind and
helpful. The Colombian family was very nice to me, that's for
sure.
But how do you shoot a photo of their Latino Thanksgiving celebration
three weeks before Thanksgiving? So, all I could do was shoot
a portrait of them. Also the photo above showed the "fall"
setting. But that was pushing it. It's a stretch.
I am beginning to press on my assignments. I am not sure why.
It's hard to make photos of something that has not happened.
But that can't be my reason for pressing. I am having trouble
being creative. Not sure why, but I am at a road block right
now. Hope that changes all tomorrow. It better will, I am shooting
Molotov, my favorite Spanish rock band from Mexico.
One of the reasons why I think I am becoming less creative
is because I have felt in a routine. So, tonight I tried to
changed that. I went out w/ Chris Young (UCLA/Berkley) and Yolanda
Sanchez (UCLA), two interns at the Sun-Sentinel who happen to
be from Southern California. We went to dinner at a catfish
restaurant and then we hit the bar scene at the Las Olas Riverfront.
Well, let's see if I can snap out of my road block w/ this change
of pace.
