Day 67 (Thrs., Nov. 17)

Today I learned a valuable lesson: take the names of everyone in your photo.

Man! I made a beginners' mistake today. I shot a few photos of a kid racing some remote control cars. Then, as I usually do, I opened the lens wide and took a wide angle photo of the whole area where he was playing. Turns out, that was the photo that the editor liked. The problem was that I only had the kid's name and not everyone around. So, my day as a photojournalist did not go so well as it should had. Today I was just a photographer, not a journalist because I didn't complete the job. Lazy? Nah, I was just pre-editing on the field. Bad choice, bad!

I was able to get the names of every one else on my photos. But one photo showed my lack of dedication for today and that's the one that sticks out. Ouch!

Anyways, the event was the NASCAR Race Fest at the Las Olas Riverfront. NASCAR is having a big race here this weekend and they are having the fan experience just steps from the Sun-Sentinel office.

All kinds of booths were there, including the face-painting booth. The little girl, whose name is Jasmin, and is 3 years old and is from Miami (haha, see I did most of my job right) didn't seem to excited about the painting.

After that I went to do one of my loves in life: shoot soccer.

I had a great time because I haven't shot soccer as much as I would like. I miss it. It's a good way to enjoy 90 minutes of photography.

High school soccer is always hard, you never know where the kids are going to shoot the ball. That's what makes it fun, because it's hard to shoot.

But if you keep your eye on the ball, you might get some nice images. This guy didn't keep his eye on the ball and missed a key header w/ only the goalkeeper to beat.

So, the key lesson of the day was to identify everyone who is in my photos. Got it! It won't happen again. By the way, the guy who couldn't keep his eye on the ball, he's name is Derek Aguilar. Haha!
