Texas Journal -- Part II:

Day 8 (Tues., June 7)

First of all, I want to wish my mother a very happy b-day. I am sorry I couldn't be around to celebrate your b-day mom, but I hope you had fun when we went to dinner the night before I drove out here. Anyways, feliz cumpleanos y que cumplas mas. I love u mom!

Today was very exciting. I woke up to the beeper. There were two messages. "Fire" said one of it. So, I headed out and snapped a few photos of a structure fire about four miles away from the apartment. I was not ready to get up and jump into action this morning. I had enough time to shoot the remains of the fire, come home, and got ready for work. I made it just in time since I was expected there by 9 a.m.

I had fun. The rush of the fire call was cool. My first assignment involved going out to the local library where little kids were taking part of story time. Of course I am a little kid myself, so it was fun. I laid on the carpet w/ them and made the photos. It was cool. Later, I hung out with the owners of the football team again. This time at their place of business. They own a exterminator service business.

Finally, I was sent out to hang out with Margaret Werner. The 76-year-old lady was sooooo sweet. She invited me into her big house and allowed me to follow her around and make photos of her. She's got Parkinson's Disease so the story was on that. I loved talking to her about what she does on a normal day. She was very interested in who I am and where I was from, too.

Going out to Mrs. Werner's home was cool. I love driving in West Texas. People over here are very nice on the road. For one, if you drive by anyone on a farm road, they are going to wave at you. Everyone says hi. It's normal farm road etiquette. That was very cool. I can get used to that. I am just wondering what's going to happen when I drive back to L.A. and I wave at everyone. All the snobby Californian's (like myself) are going to flip me off.

The sun did not set until 9:15 tonite. It was a very long day. I love the sunset around here. There are no huge mountains, so you can see the sun forever, hence the late sunset. I took a walk around the block and found the apartment pool. Too bad there were no kids or anyone around. As I was walking I realized this town is too quiet. Except for the occasional car that drives by, it's pretty quiet around here. I am getting lonelier by the minute.

I have been so busy today, that it was cool when I dozed off and took a nap while laying in the hot tub earlier in my apartment. It's so relaxing to turn off the lights, put a few candles on and relax in the warm water. With today I have worked five days in a row. I needed the extra rest. I am working through the end of the week and I don't think I will have a free day until the end of the month. Just how I like it. Well, I better get to bed early today, who knows if the pager will go off again. I can't wait to see if it does. :)
