Day 18 (Sat., June 25)
Ahhhhh. Today was hard waking up. I had a stomach ache and
I was sleepy. Despite that, I was able to get up and go shoot
professional golf. The San Angelo Country Club held its partnership
tournament this week and today was a big day for the tournament.
Remember a few days ago (Day 13, June
20) when I went shoot at Blair's Western Wear store? Remember
how I kept on saying that the National Association of Hispanic
Journalists internship got me ready for that event. Well, as
you might remember from Day
4 of the NAHJ internship, when I shot the first-ever NAHJ
Golf Tournament. That got me ready for today's assignment. I
am beginning to see that the NAHJ internship not only introduced
me to some really cool friends, but I learned key things that
will help me in the future.

I took the same approach in shooting golf today. I wanted to
get up close and personal with the players and get a nice celebration
photo. Here it is, I think I did a good job. It's very similar
to the one I shot in Fort Worth last week, but this one came
through a lot easier. I didn't have trouble in finding the shot
and making it happen.

The cool thing about internships is that I get to learn on
the go. I learned something valuable today. Well, let me rephrase
that. I got reassured on something valuable today. My other
assignment of the day was to go shoot a photo at the Pottery
Ranch. We are working on a story on "crafty" places
where kids can have their birthday parties and learn a little.
The party at the place was the only one we could find in the
area for this weekend. So, I couldn't mess this up.
However, I never got a chance to shoot a single frame at the
party. Turns out the party was for the daughter of the Standard-Times'
Managing Editor Anthony Wilson. As soon as I saw him at the
location, I knew my day was going to be short. Ethically, I
was not going to shoot a photo about one of our employees enjoying
a service for the purpose of telling the story. That's a huge
no-no. Mr. Wilson, who is actually the person who contacted
me and offered me the internship two weeks before I started
here, told me that he was sorry and I turned away and went back
to the office. Oh well. I guess it's cool to see that we were
all on the same page as far as ethics are concerned. I am glad
to see my boss so direct on something like this.
So, with the rest of the day free. I decided to go home and
work on some things like cleaning the house. Later this evening
I went to the river walk to hang out there. It was cool walking
by the water and relaxing as the warm night covered the river.
I was out there a few weeks ago when I first showed up. But
I went during the week and there was no one around. Today, there
was a lot of people fishing and hanging out. It gave life to
this cool place.
