Day 64 (Wed., August 10)

As my last day of the internship quickly approaches, I feel
a little sad. First, because I am going to miss all the great
people that I have been working w/ these past 10 weeks. But
also because I will not get to see this West Texas football
that everyone keeps talking about. I really wish I could stay
and enjoy that.

Today I was sent out to the Angelo State University and the
Central High football practices. Very cool experience hanging
out w/ the college folk. It reminds me of home and my university,
although my school doesn't have a football team. Boooooo! I
really wish we did.
The workday was really cool as I did football stuff. Tonight
was so much fun. Brandy Ramirez, one of the reporting interns
set up a get-together at Grahams tonight as part of my "going-away"
celebration. I was glad to have one last chance to hang out
and have a good time w/ some of my coworkers. I am going to
miss them a lot.
Going to Grahams was cool. I went there three times this summer
and I was always amazed on how everyone seems to know everyone
in there. It was scary the first time as I was reminded on how
small San Angelo really is. It was two months ago when I first
went there and had a good time. Tonight, I was still confused
on why they dance "cumbia" music different in West
Texas than anywhere else. They call it "Tejano" music.
But that's cumbias, man! They also call norteno music "Tejano".
Tonight I was still weirded out that everyone dances around
in a circle on the dance floor, not in one spot and doing all
the spinning as cumbias are dance throughout Latin America.
It's different, but I guess it's a good way to dance and not
really have a partner. Just follow the leader, I guess.
I hung out there pretty late, almost to closing time. So, I
hope tomorrow my body doesn't punish me from going out tonight.
