Texas Journal -- Part II:
Standard-Times Internship

Day 67 (Sat., August 13)

First, I want to wish Ana a very happy b-day. I am so proud of you girl, you've have gone such a long way from the young 15-year-old teenager to a very smart and educated woman. I am sure your family, boyfriend and friends (like me) are very proud of you for what you've done in life. Keep it up. Have a great year.

Well the job portion of the internship is done. But the experiences do not stop there. Technically, I am still on an internship trip. So, I will share a few of those activities w/ y'all. Last night I packed. It was so easy to pack as I do not own too many things. I cleaned up the apartment and loaded the things onto the truck this morning. I turned in my keys and w/ just over 7,800 miles since I left California 10 weeks ago, I headed out away from San Angelo. First, I headed over to my San Angelo adoptive parents' home to help them load the race car. We spent the day in San Antonio racing George's 550-horsepower Camaro.

We drover four hours to get to San Antonio. It was cool hanging out as I shared a lot of things w/ George and Betty. My immediate goals, my future plans, my past and many many many things. It was a good experience.

The racing was fun until the sky opened up and water came down. So, there was a one-hour delay as the crew kept the track dry. Then George went up against a beautiful Chevelle and smoked it. Woohoo. Later on, though, George lost to an S-10 and the night was over. Still, the day at the track was lots of fun as I hung out w/ the Taylor's, their "real" daughter Becky and her three children Shelby, Brandon and Savannah.

During the rain delay, I disappeared. Brandon said I they were all looking for me. Actually, I was on the stands taking weather photos and came up w/ the photos above and below. Just because the cars weren't racing, that doesn't mean there was nothing to shoot.

After loading the race car back on the trailer. I convinced the Taylor's to go w/ me to Carl's Jr. That's my favorite burger from California and one of the only three in Texas is here in San Antonio. So we made it over there. We ended back at the hotel at 2 a.m. and immediately went to bed. We were all exhausted.
