Texas Journal -- Part II:
Standard-Times Internship

Day 68 (Sun., August 14)

After a good night sleep, I woke up well rested and ready for my drive. But before heading out, the Taylor's and I had a little fun in front of the race car. It was sure a great experience being w/ them this past month. They offered me that home environment that I miss so much from California. I have not been homesick since I've met them. Just before heading out, they added their signatures and a message on my cowboy hat just like most of my coworkers at the Standard-Times autographed for me. I will hang the hat on a wall in the future and will look back at my hat and read what everyone wrote. The best memory I could physically keep w/ me for the rest of my life.

I didn't think Betty had it in her, but she did my usual "Toyota" jump w/ me on a photo. This lady's a "keeper". Hahaha!

Giddy Up Cowboy!

After saying "see you later" to the Taylor's I got on the 10 Hwy toward Houston. Yes, I know, I am going the wrong direction on the 10 Hwy. as California is the OTHER way. I am going to Houston for... Well, y'all know why. It's so obvious.

The drive, however, wasn't as cool as I thought it would be. Heavy rain came down just outside of Katy near Houston. So, since I have a pick-up and all my stuff is in the bed, I took shelter along w/ bikers under an overpass as I covered my belongings w/ a tarp. Once the tarp was on, I couldn't keep myself from shooting. So, I shot the above photo of a biker resting. He is on a three-rider tour back from South Dakota. They are on their way to Louisiana. "We were making good time, but then rain slowed us down," the man said. Well, that's how I felt.

Once in Houston, we did some really cool things. First, I satisfied my craving for a Turkey Leg at Trader's Village. A Turkey Leg is a HUGE drumstick w/ lots and lots of meat. Add barbecue sause and bring along a pound of napkins and you're ready for a good meal. Yum! I felt so good eating so much meat.

With that in mind, I am now closing the San Angelo Journal for good. This past 10 weeks have been extremely amazing. I have learned a lot. Seen a lot of new places. Have taken part of a lot of things I never knew about. And met some of the greatest people in the world.

I will never forget my 10 weeks in Angelo.
