Day 11 (Weds., June 9)

Caption: A view of Dallas from the east off Sylvan Avenue, which was shut down on Wednesday because overflow on the Trinity River. The sight is unusual, as the river normally does not have much water.

Caption: Very little of the center yellow lines that separate the two lanes on Sylvan Avenue can be seen as water on the Trinity River rose high because of rain on Wednesday. The road is one of the few access that connects Oak Cliff and Dallas.

Today I had to run off and do some spot news. Sylvan Avenue, one of the major access roads that connects Oak Cliff and Dallas, was shut down because the water on the Trinity River stated to rise. Apparently this river is so dry, that when they built Sylvan Avenue, the did not make it a bridge that went over the river. It just goes over the flood banks but most of it is at ground level with the river bed. So, when the rain started to hit hard, the water started to rise. This created the closure of the street. I was sent out there to see what happened and what we could use for the front page. The first photo will run front page tomorrow. During the brief 45-minute stay on the street, buckets of rain started to come down. When I crossed the "Street Closed" sign onto the road, the day seem calm and there was a few drops of rain. However, once I was deep into the road, the rain came down hard and I was soaked. Needless to say, I showed up to the office soaked, but I had a photo to deliver. Other than that, today was nice. The spot news, on-the-go flow was awesome.

Here I am completely wet. I stood out on Sylvan Avenue a little too long as heavy rain hit. I went back into the office completely wet.
