Day 21 (Sat., June 19)

The above photo has nothing to do with an assignment. It has to do with the love of photography. They say that you learn a lot more when you teach someone about a topic you know. Well today, Dayena (cq) came over and hung out with me at the apartment. She showed me her portfolio (she is a former model who has been featured on many Texas magazines and advertisement, and also has been the cover model for an edition of the Lowrider Magazine). She also looked at my photos and saw a photo of me that involves some very time-consuming, yet fun way to take photos. The photo (which is seen below) is a five minute exposure that involves a few sparks of the flash. I was explaining to Dayena how this worked, but it was a little confusing. So we locked ourselves in my walk-in closet (no, we didn't do anything bad and I'm clarifying that to all my perverted friends **Sean, you are included**) and took some photos. We decided to play around with gels and the above photo has a mixture of green, blue and red sparks of the flash. I did not timed the photo, but I think it was at least a minute exposure. Playing around with the camera is so much fun, and having a good listener and someone willing to learn is always good. It serves for good a good time and you are never going to be bored. Today was a very long day. It's 4 a.m. and I am just finishing up the day. I worked today but I was on the field most of the time. I am working on a few photo stories that involved lifestyles that occur mostly afterhours, so I was out on the streets of Dallas and Irving trying to find my subjects. I can gladly say that this type of research is real fun and I am glad that I am working on these projects. More on that (as stated yesterday) will be on the journal in the future. Today I was stung by a bee for the first time in my life. It was the oddest thing ever. I was driving down Forest Lane on the way to the mall when all of a sudden I felt sharp pain on my forhead. The first thing that came to mind (well, second after the bee came into my mind -- literally), was that a piece of glass had jumped from a car next to me and into my window and the onto my head. However, when I touched my forhead to see what had struck me, the bee fell to my lap dead. It was the oddest thing because I had no idea what to expect. Then, I had the sharpest headache I've ever encountered. This whole episode made Dayena and I bond. We were on our way to the mall, but stopped so I can get treated. She totally took care of me. Applied alcohol, disinfectant and cleaned up my boo boo. Looking at her doing it while being so attentative was the highlight of my day. I'm glad I cooked for her today, otherwise, maybe she wouldn't have cared about my incident. :)
