Day 52 (Tues., July 20)

Today was awesome! I got to meet Mexican Rock Star Alejandra
Guzman. Al Dia had a 15-minute interview with her. She's in
Dallas to promote her U.S. tour. She's playing here on July
30, and I think I am also shooting that concert. Man, having
the camera around and knowing I have to make a good photo without
messing up gives me such a thoughtful mind. I was thinking hard
on how to make a good photo of Alejandra, that I totally forgot
that I had one of the rock icons of Mexican rock in front of
me. When it came time to get a portrait of her (I was given
less than a minute), I was ready and got the job done. The top
photo was taken as she was being interviewed by Lorena Flores,
the Al Dia entertainment reporter. The bottom photo was taken
after we were done with the mini-photo shoot. I was lucky and
got her to stick her tongue out at me like the other people
do when I shoot their portraits. So, that photo is below.
Today I was a one-man show. I showed up at the office at 10
a.m. ready for work. It's just a little bit before midnight
now and I have been working constantly all day. First, I started
by attending a mini-press conference upstairs at the Dallas
Morning News conference room. A very successful economist from
Mexico, Luis de La Calle, was in the office talking about U.S.
and Mexico financial relationships. I ran out of that meeting
and drove to the Hard Rock Cafe to take care of Alejandra. It
was so cool. She put all her trust on me as I lend her a hand
to get off the stage and go to the location I picked out to
get her photos done. She was so sweet and I was able to do my
job. Then, I hurried back to the office as we had our monthly
meeting with most of the Al Dia staff. It was great to see and
hear what the leaders of the newspaper are thinking and expecting.
I was put on the spot and Managing Editor Alfredo Carbajal plugged
my web site. Thanks for visiting if you are here now that one
of the big bosses has endorsed www.JulyThePhotoGuy.com. After
that, I ran off and skipped the after-meeting cake to go shoot
some studio photography of some items we are writing about for
later in the week. Then, I was off to the streets of Oak Cliff
to take photos of bus stops for a story Salvador is working
on. Came back to the office and worked on editing all those
photos I took so far. Then, went to the Mexico Consulate to
take photos of a supposed protest that never happened. Finally,
I went to the Cotton Bowl to take photos of the Dallas Burn
vs. Colorado Rapids professional soccer game, where I was until
about 10:30 p.m.. tonight. I'm tired just writing about it.
I hope you didn't get tired reading it. But yeah, that's what
I did today. I was so busy, but yet it was so exciting. Now
that's the type of work day I live by.
