Al Dia Internship

Day 57 (Sun., July 25)

My boss rocks! No, I am not trying to kiss ass. Ok, maybe I am. Haha. Just kidding. Seriously, though. He rocks!!! On the above photo (from right to left) Salvador "the Salamander" Hernandez, sports guru Carlos Nava, Al Dia Managing Editor Alfredo Carbajal, and yours trully hang out poolside at the Village Country Club. Alfredo invited us over to hang out with him by the pool today. It was great being there. Swam a little, drank a little, played volleyball a little and looked at beautiful women -- A LITTLE! Ok, maybe A LOT.

It was cool hanging out with the guys. Alfredo treated us to good chips and dip and also a good lunch. Now I know how the big Al Dia wigs roll around here. Hmm, makes me look forward to when I will be a big wig at Al Dia. I'll get there, trust me. Especially if I keep on making photojournalism my top priority as I do. Take today for example. It was my third of four days off but I was having withdrawals from not working. I had an itchy shutter button finger today and I was not afraid to use it. On the way back from skinland, I mean the pool, we bumped into a cool scene. A large crowd of Brazilian soccer fans were hanging out watching the closing moments of the Argentina vs. Brazil soccer match that would decide the winner of the Copa America, live from Peru. Oh oh, the itchy shutter button finger went off. I barged into their celebration and took the following photo as Brazil crowned itself with the cup. Of course, I couldn't just take the photo and be selfish, so I ran home and transmitted it to the newspaper so that we could share it with the rest of Dallas. Oh well, what can I say, I love taking photos and I love sharing them. I think that I see things in a different way, so I'd like to show people what I see and hear. Maybe that's the way to become an Al Dia big wig and be able to stay at a nice community and have pool-side Sundays surrounded with much skin. Sorry guys, I am still a feminist and I did not take photos of the ladies. If you want to see them, become an Al Dia big wig and/or just kiss up to Managing Editor Alfredo and maybe he'll invite you over.

Remember I mentioned Liz on Friday? Well, today she did the sweetest thing. She's a good listener and somehow remembered that Cookie Monster and I are pretty close. Today, I got a call from her and she mentioned she had something for me. I invited her over to hang out with us at the pool but she didn't have much time being that she's a very busy artists and she was working on some projects. However, she had enough time to bring me my gift: a Mrs. Fields Cookie disguised as a Cookie Monster. Now, y'all know how much I love CM and that gesture was the sweetest thing ever. I haven't known her much yet, but with that can of attitude, I can't wait to see exactly how sweet she really is. Anyways, the photo of my Cookie Monster cookie is below. It's funny, though. Today was very hot and the cookie was melting as she drove around town. I told her that it didn't matter that Cookie Monster seemed a little weird-looking, but that she should be happy she made my day. "Besides," I told her. "You're an artist and this Cookie Monster cookie looks like a very good attempt at an abstract piece of art." She's awesome, I hope I get the chance to continue writing about her. :)
