Day 84 (Sat., Aug. 21)

Sometimes I wish I was a rock star. Today was one of those days. I went to shoot Patrulla 81 and the Horoscopos de Durango, two Norteno music bands from Mexico. They were in town to promote their new albums and to sign autographs for fans. As I shot photos of fans, I kept on seeing a bunch of women just going crazy at the sight of these band members.

Besides the assignment, the day was pretty cool. I finally got some grocery shopping done and I cooked myself a nice dinner. It's funny, I went all out as if I was going to have a date come over. What's even funnier is that Salvador was probably right when I first showed him Bobby Sanchez' camera -- an amazing Canon 1D, you know, like the one I just purchased yesterday. Anyways, when I showed Salvador that camera on our first week here, I told him that I would kill for a camera like that. About a month later, I had the privilege to use Bobby's camera for a boxing match. I was playing around with the camera when Salvador looks over to Bobby and says "I don't think you will ever see your camera again, Bobby." Salvador followed with a funny quote "if Julio would ever have one of those cameras, he would never need a date ever again in his life." Maybe he was right, being that I cooked for myself and didn't have a date. However, I have to disagree w/ him on that one. I bought my camera yesterday and I had a very nice date with Liz at the end of the day, so I guess I beat the odds, huh Sal?

After dinner I went over to a party comprised of a lot of Dallas Morning News employees and some other people who I would not normally hang out with. The place was really nice, just north of downtown about four or five miles. The place was amazing, it was an loft complex that looked very much like Melrose Place. I was in some sort of culture shock -- and I am from Los Angeles, so it was weird. Anyways, I got the whole demographics of the loft complex, which was comprised of a model, law students, journalists and artists. It was totally Melrose Place, but it was a fun night. That's for sure.
