Day 1 (Sunday, June 11)
Oh man. Today was a very long day. I woke up at 4 a.m., just
2 and half hours after I went to sleep. I headed toward O'Hare
Airport in Chicago, where I will be catching the plane ride
to Ft. Lauderdale compliments of NAHJ.
The plane rides to Ft. Lauderdale weren't that bad. During
the flight to Houston I was seated next to Liliana Esquivel
of Columbia College. She's going to be working on the convention's
newspaper while I will be taking a stab at the online version.
The next flight was cool because it was full of NAHJ participants.
There were at least 12 students and a few professionals on the
flight.
We got into Ft. Laudredale and headed toward the Grande Hotel
were NAHJ is having the students stay during the week-long project.
We met for an introduction and an orientation. We then had
a reception. Once that was done I decided to head out with a
few of the other interns to start working on some feature things.
I became the tour guide since I was the only one in our six-person
group that had been in Ft. Lauderdale before. So, I took them
to Las Olas River Front to see what kind of nightlife the city
had. This was my way of getting the ball rolling into becoming
productive this week.

We walked into Revolution Club, which is a place where I had
done some work during my fall internship here with the Sun-Sentinel.
I shot around for a while but because I had been traveling all
week long and I didn't get much sleep the previous night so
I was pretty tired.
We headed back to the hotel and I headed to bed.
It's going to be a long week and staying up late is not going
to help.
