Day 7 (Saturday, June 17)
Today was so laid back. It was a nice contrast to the long week
of hard work.
I woke up relatively late. I headed over across the causeway
to the Hyatt, where NAHJ was hosting a luncheon sponsored by
ESPN. The event featured some sports writers and journalists
who were talking about the impact of soccer in the United States.
The panel was pretty good and I was able to put in a comment
and a question regarding pro soccer in the United States. Nothing
major. Just talked about the importance of players playing abroad.
As soon as the luncheon was over the members were invited to
a World Cup gathering. A lot of NAHJ attendees filled the place
as Italy played U.S.
The game was pretty good. However the final score was 1-1.
I was hanging out with Omar (San Francisco State) and we decided
to go back to the hotel to relax a little before the start of
tonight's party.
During our walk to the hotel I stared doing silly things with
the promotional soccer balls that ESPN was handling out. Omar
took some pretty cool photos.

Now that's what I call a soccer photo shoot! Thanks O-Man!!!
These photos are pretty cool. I actually look like I know what
I am doing! hahahahaha!
Later we went to El Gran Baile, the last official NAHJ Convention
event. Henry Alfaro and Maria Elena Salinas were both inducted
into the NAHJ Hall of Fame. It was a great moment for them and
also for me.
I feel great for being part of that celebration because I grew
up watching Henry and Maria Elena on the television screen.
They definitely inspired my journalism career.
With the final event it only means one thing. The convention
is now over. For me, it's the last time I get to do something
as a student. I am now graduated and I am off to other things
in my life. No more student projects for me. I am a little bit
sad, but I am also glad that I took part of such thing.
