Day 2 (Wednesday Sept. 8)

First of all, Happy Birthdate Liz!!!!!
Ok, it's 11 a.m. and I just wanted to give you a head start
on the day's activities. I woke up and went jogging. I think
I jogged just over three miles, not sure though. I did jog through
Times Square and a good portion of Central Park. It was a cool
experience as it was raining at some point. Again, the massive
crowd was there. I don't think I have seen so many umbrellas
in one place ever. The above photo is of the CBS studio where
they tape the Late Show with David Letterman. That's actually
right next to my hotel. It's kind of cool that I am so closed
to it. I'm not a fan of the show -- at all. But still, it's
kind of cool. While jogging, I discovered that Studio 54 is
also right next to my hotel. I can't believe it's there because
last night Lauren and I walked right by there and we didn't
notice it. Shame on us. Well, the place was closed and it didn't
have any lit signs. So, shame on them. It's also kinda cool
that you can walk outside of the hotel and it's just right there.
This hotel is at a great location, right in the middle of everything.
The Society of Professionals convention is held at the Grand
Hyatt on Park Avenue at the Grand Central Station, so I think
that would be a cool place to stay in, as well. That's it for
now. Come back later.

Ok, I'm back. Sorry for the delay. I have been busy. The photo
above was taken on the cab drive from the Ameritana Hotel, where
I stayed last nite, to the Grand Hyatt Hotel, where SPJ is having
me stay during my internship days. The cab driver was scary.
He almost hit a bicycle. Damn. I better watch you when I cross
the street.

The photo above is the first thing I did when I got into my
room at the hotel. I have a view over Park Avenue and most of
the Grand Central Station Building. I can't believe how beautiful
this room is. SPJ hooked it up!

After settling into our rooms we had our first meeting. We
met all the members of the staff and then we hung out some more.
We later had a second meeting to plan tomorrow's day. I think
tomorrow will be a good day. Looks like I'll be very busy. I
have five or six assignments to take care. One of which is to
file photos aboard a boat that will be cruising on the Hudson
River as SPJ members get treated to a night on the New York
Harbor overlooking the city's skyline. Should be a busy day.
Can't wait.
After our second meeting we decided to hang out at a bar. Matt
Rodriguez of Boston University suggested we'd go to the Whiskie.
So we did. Nice choice M-Rod, as he quickly got tagged with
that nickname in the meeting. The place was very cool, very
dark. they had a lit dance floor kind of like Saturday Night
Fever. You just can't go wrong with that. Also, I had an apple
martini. That was the best apple martini ever. You can't go
to the Big Apple and not have an apple drink. This beverage,
however, had a huge slice of apple in it. The huge apple, big
apple -- if you will, was so large, that it was hard to sip
out of. The drink was awesome though. After that we went to
other places including the Scruffy Duffy (I think it was called
like that), where Amanda of Arizona State and I had an Irish
Car Bomb race. She beat me by a half sip. I guess it's true
what they say about Arizona State students -- they know how
to party.
